Immortalized by the great aviation writer Ernest K. Gann as the western terminus of AM-21 during the DC-2 era, Cleveland was the only city in Ohio served by North Central in 1970. This city was the southeast terminus for "Herman" during this period and could only be reached through the Detroit gateway. Seven daily flights served the city with schedules reduced by three flights on both Saturdays and Sundays. Only one DC-9 operated the schedule with the remaining flights utilizing the Convair 580.

Inbound flights originated as far west as Chicago and as far north as Marquette, Michigan as they worked their way southeast, serving most of the Michigan stations before being funneled through Detroit and finally arriving in Cleveland. Chicago originated three flights, Marquette two, Sault Ste. Marie and Saginaw / Bay City , Michigan each with one. First arrival at 838am with the final inbound arriving at 9:03pm to overnight.

All outbound service would go to Detroit, however fourteen different destinations could be reached by staying in one of seven originating flights. Most cities served by a single aircraft departing Cleveland was six. Flight 973 terminated at Chicago's O'Hare after five enroute stops. Flight 931 ended at Sault Ste. Marie after four stops. These two flights served ten different destinations.

Flight 343, which departed at 700am, overnights after having been inbound #974 from Detroit the previous evening. Outbound flight 935, the last departure of the day at 6:25pm, would overnight in Alpena, Michigan after having stopped at Detroit and Saginaw / Bay City.
